Our Story

Foster the Need identified the challenges facing foster children and families in Howard County and began to act. Born from a desire to assist children and families in need, the organization has evolved from the supply of duffle bags for foster children to the more sustained need of clothing and creating the feeling of personal belonging. The Foster Closet was a simple idea in 2023 that took flight with the loving care and expression of support through Laura and Shane Martin, with space, volunteer, and monetary assistance from the congregation at Maple Grove Community Church and surrounding community organizations, businesses, and individuals.

Foster the Need is a 501(c)(3) non-profit operating under the umbrella of the Maple Grove Community Church with a simple goal: Change the outcome of foster kids and families in Howard County.

Foster the Need has launched the Bravely Me Boutique that embodies the vision to bring a sense of personal belonging to foster children and support foster and kinship families.

The physical space will provide resources and relief for foster and kinship families while providing an unforgettable experience for the child as they get to pick out brand-new outfits and make choices of their own! The emotional space created by the volunteer efforts and positive impact to those in the foster process is endless and impactful.
